Laredo, Texas is located on the north bank of the Rio Grande in South Texas, across from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. In 2012, the city population was 236,091 making it the tenth most populous city in the state of Texas and third most populated on the United States-Mexican Border, after San Diego, California and El Paso Texas. Laredo is part of the Laredo-Nuevo Laredo Metropolitan Area with an estimated population of 636,516. Laredo has the distinction of flying seven flags, the Flag of the Republic of the Rio Grande in addition to the Six Flags of Texas. Laredo is home to professional sports teams Laredo Lemurs (Baseball), Laredo Heat (Soccer), and the Laredo Rattlesnakes (Indoor Football).
Laredo has several points of interests such as Lake Casa Blanca, Republic of the Rio Grande Capitol Building Museum, The Laredo Center for the Arts, and The Lamar Bruni Vergara Science Center Planetarium.
